Leigongjian Fm
Type Locality and Naming
It was proposed in 1976 by the 8th Geological Party of, and published in 1990 by, the Hubei Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources. The type section is located at Leigongjian, southwest of Liulin in southern part of Suizhou, Hubei Province.
Synonym: (雷公尖组)
Lithology and Thickness
It consists of light gray, gray green, loess-yellow thin-to-thick-bedded metamorphosed quartzose micritic sandstone and metamorphosed micritic sandstone, intercalated with green sericitic phyllite.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It is pseudo-conformably underlain by the Lanjiafan Fm
Upper contact
The formation composes the syncline core with no top observed
Regional extent
It is steady in lithology and hard against weathering, often forming precipitous mountain peaks. The formation varies in thickness, at most reaching 404 m, and is mainly exposed in southern part of Suizhou, Hubei Province.
